Sebaceous Cyst Removal
Lumps and bumps on the face, neck or other noticeable areas can often be caused by cysts. Both sebaceous and epidermoid cysts are common lumps that can occur under the skin, which can be both uncomfortable and a cosmetic concern. While most skin cysts do not pose a health risk, many people want these bumps removed for cosmetic and comfort reasons. Dr. Aleksandr Shteynberg at Vantage Plastic Surgery offers epidermoid and sebaceous cyst removal at our clinics in UES Manhattan and Brooklyn.
What is a Sebaceous Cyst?
A sebaceous cyst is a sac of fluid that forms under the skin, often near a sebaceous gland. The face, neck and upper back are common areas where these cysts occur, ranging from a half an inch to two inches in diameter. Most sebaceous cysts are benign, but they can be uncomfortable when inflamed and a distracting growth when they appear on the face or other exposed areas.
What is a Facial Epidermoid Cyst?
Epidermoid cysts also occur on the face or upper body, and they usually do not pose a health risk. These are smaller bumps that can look similar to a pimple, usually hard lumps that are yellowish or tan in color. Most epidermoid cysts will eventually go away on their own, but they are annoying and noticeable, which is why many people want these cysts removed.
Both sebaceous and epidermoid cysts can be quickly removed in an outpatient procedure. Dr. Shteynberg is a double board certified plastic surgeon that can remove these small cysts to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, chest or back. Epidermoid and sebaceous cyst removal can be completed with local anesthesia to numb the area and either an aspiration with a needle or an incision to remove the cyst sac, which can permanently remove the cyst. Dr. Shteynberg can ensure the cyst removal is carefully performed to minimize any scarring for an improved skin appearance.
